Elvis marries Priscilla in Las Vegas: eight minutes that fed the myth
On May 1, 1967, Elvis Presley married Priscilla Beaulieu at the Aladdin Hotel in Las Vegas, in an eight-minute ceremony stage-managed by Colonel Parker. More than romance, it was image control at the low point of Elvis's Hollywood years. The triumphant comeback came two years later; this day sealed the strangest, most domestic chapter of the King's life.

Rita Coolidge is born, the secret voice behind several rock classics
On May 1, 1945, Rita Coolidge was born in Tennessee. A standout singer on Joe Cocker's Mad Dogs & Englishmen tour and a muse of the L.A. scene, she is also at the center of one of rock's juiciest credit disputes: she says she co-wrote the piano coda of 'Layla' and never got credit. Her career shows how much talent was left out of the official liner notes.
