Stuart Sutcliffe dies, the fifth Beatle who chose painting
Stuart Sutcliffe died in Hamburg of a brain hemorrhage, The Beatles' first bassist and John Lennon's best friend. He had left the band to devote himself to painting and to stay with his fiancee, photographer Astrid Kirchherr, creator of the Beatle haircut. He was 21 and enormously gifted as a visual artist.
